Here's an idea for naming: The first two digits would be the core count, and the next digits their ipc /10. So let's say that they release an 8 core cpu with a 20% performance gain (like the 11900K) and it executes 1.2 instructions per cycle, they would call it the 8-12 @ 4.3Ghz for example. If they have a 24 core cpu with 5.7 instructions per clock cycle it would be a 24-57 @6Ghz. Then it doesn't matter what architecture or manufacturing process they have + they provide actual information about the cpu.

Honestly, the thing so many people overlook is that the i9 isnt supposed to be a halfbreed workstation cpu like the ryzen 9, its supposed to be the ultimate gaming processor. 8 cores is more than plenty for that task. the 10900k i feel only had 10 because it was their only option to make it somehow seem better than the 9900k. i9 and r9 are simply different products for people with different goals. i9 is for the ultimate gaming machine, r9 is for a workstation you can game on in your spare time. I would rather intel focus on performance per core and gaming prowess than try to align itself with amds product just because it exists. let them have that extremely niche market for now, and come back with sapphire rapids hedt starting at 8 cores and priced close enough to the r9 to pull people who want the quad channel ram and other features that the r9 lacks over.

@Mr Anderson Thanks man, I appreciate that. Yeah it does support dual channel. since my wife and I both have the same type of ram in our rigs, I could just hold onto the extra stick as a backup in case another one of ours dies. Thank you, sir.

Mr Anderson 25 өдрийн өмнө
Efficiency wise, unless you really need that extra 8gb ram from the 24gb (3 sticks), you be better of going 2x8gb for dual channel performance(I assume your motherboard supports dual channel). Odd number sticks does not cause issues.

AVX512: just what consumers were desperate for. AVX512 is pretty useless for practically all consumer workloads. Firstly, AVX silicon is extremely power hungry which means more heat; the power consumption increases with the word size of the AVX instruction set (so 512 uses more power than 256 did). More power + more heat = less boost. In addition, because AVX is so power hungry, Intel (and AMD) keep the silicon powered off for the higher word sizes: bringing the silicon online introduces latency. Consumer applications would have to ensure that they keep the silicon powered up by continuing to feed it work to do, which games cannot do by nature. AVX512 only really makes sense in batch computing, e.g. science or offline rendering.

Hi Paul, I’m an embedded engineer and yes, Intel and amd have teams that work with the teams that make the cpus. The manufacturing of CPUs is the combination of multiple engineering teams working on different parts of the product. In the end of the day, Intel design the chipsets for their processors and thus they have their own motherboards to test their new CPUs. After they finish the final product, motherboard companies use Intel schematics and designes to base their motherboards on. Just like companies use Nvidia schematics and final design to base their PCBs for graphics cards.

8 Core...Wow Intel....AMD will be "Ah we can sit back for a few years now boys, Intel are off the boil!" So less innovation and less reason for them to push Ryzen Architecture faster to the end of life. INTEL are really struggling with the 10nm 7nm lithography.

I've never bought AMD before (nor paid attention to be honest) I just want to know what do you think in 2021 (I WILL find parts damnit!) is the best CPU to stream 1440p with a couple 4K webcams (those eat up CPU power too I've learned!) and game at max settings for 1440p? Is 5950X enough or do I need to shell out for like one of those HEDT ones? I honestly can't follow the heirarchy as the numbers are all over the place. Please help me!

Hey Paul, love the vids and have found a lot of my knowledge actually comes from watching these and other vids from tech youtubers great job. Anyway, I've ran out of USB ports on the back of my PC and have had to resort to using a USB 3.0 hub for my external drives. I've noticed that after turning my PC off the external drives, which are mechanical are still powered on in that I can still hear the discs spinning. If I unplug the hub they then power down completely. My question is this: is leaving them on after my PC has powered down going to shorten their lifespan or should I manually keep unplugging the hub to shut them down completely? Any help would be much appreciated.

Right now it appears you're better off sticking with Z490. As you can still use 11th gen on Z490 and Z590 board is effectively the same other than higher RAM clock support out of the box for lower end 590 series boards. PCI-E 4.0 is still from the CPU and only PCI-E 3.0 from the chipset. If you are still unsure, wait for the Z590 reviews.

Do you think it's a good idea for me to replace the A520 motherboard with something as expensive as a $160 B550 Aorous Elite when I"m only gonna run PBO for overclocks? And do you recommend people doing first time builds also go through system integrators right now just to get their hands on GPUs and then replace the lower tier parts themselves (motherboard ram storage)?

Paul, a suggestion with your child and TV. Think about putting something grown up that you could watch, like a nature program or gardening program, or whatever, as some "sitting together and chilling in each others' arms" with your kid, either you or the missus. The idea is that your daughter will not associate TV with her kids programs for her, that there can be things on that TV that aren't for her, aren't "riveting" for her, but aren't, well, BORING. The TV then doesn't become a treat (like sweets) or a distraction, and that sometimes "watching the TV" isn't about what is on that screen but about being together. Demystify the TV, basically, and let it be something that she associates with "meh" as much as she'll associate it with the colourful shows she's riveted by.

Hi Paul. I have a friend of mine that has a pretty standard system. She has a 4 core Intel processor, i dont' remember the model but I know it's a 2011 model, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, 1 Terabyte HDD, an NVIDIA 710, and the default grayish no-brand power supply that comes with the case that probably gives only 250 W power although it might claim to be 500 W. She is a character artist and was planning to buy a new PC this year. I was planning to help her get a PC with a Ryzen 3600 or 5600X, an NVidia 1660 or 3060/3060 ti, 16 GB of ddr4 Ram and SSD storage. The thing is, due to financial issues she realized she might have to postpone buying a new PC this year, and we were looking for ways to perhaps upgrade her current PC to handle her graphic work better. We were thinking upping her ram from 8 GB to 16 GB. Her motherboard has only 2 RAM slots and one of them is used by one 8 DDR3 stick. Also we were thinking of switching to an SSD. The issue I want to ask about is the graphic card. Considering she is running on the default power supply that came with the case, and considering the Nvidia 710 uses only 19w of power, is it wise to do any kind of graphic upgrade without buying a new power supply? From my research, the least viable graphic card for her use case is the nvidia 1050/1050 ti, which would use 75W power. I am concerned that jump in power would be tough for a default power supply to handle My second question is what graphic cards are good for optimal graphic design software and why. There is always info about which cards are good for video editing on adobe premiere and 3d graphics software, including why, but minimal info regarding what graphic cards are needed to run the latest versions Adobe Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint properly, which is the reason why she ended up with an Nvidia 710 in the first place, although I, a graphic and character artist myself, have felt significant improvements in both my graphic work and windows usage when i got a mid range Nvidia card, but I also use it for games, which she won't. Forums on the internet claim that the optimal middle grounds for Adobe Photoshop are an Nvidia Gefore 1050 ti, an Nvidia Geforce 1660, or an Nvidia Gefore 3060 ti, but they don't explain why. The only details I found that some features in Photoshop are grayed out unless you have a graphic card, but no information on the differences in performance between one card and the other, or how CPU bound and GPU bound the graphic editing softwares are when it comes to their overall performance, as well as RAM requirements for advanced high resolution multi layered image editing and digital illustration. I am also looking for information about both the general performance and fluidity of the program during illustration and image editing as well as the performance of any GPU bound special features in the image editing software that uses 3d effects. Could there be some info regarding what is the recommended hardware for a professional illustration and advanced photo editing rig as opposed to the rigs being video editing/gaming or streaming, as well as why? Thanks in advance. Please note that an illustration rig would need to be dual screen because usually screen 2 is a Wacom (or other) tablet screen for illustration so it is also a device that supports dual 1080p screens. (or sometimes the secondary screen is 2k or 4k depending on the model of tablet screen)

Why? 99% of PC users don't need more than 4 and gamers no more than 6 and probably a mere or less than 1% need 10 or more. But let's get the facts straight, who the hell is editing videos on their PCs when EVERYBODY is using their gaddamn cameras for making a video (and photos). I rather have a much more powerful gaming processor than some overpriced POS costing $500+ than what I should buy.

Of course is there a reason from 10 to 8 ...with 8 cores u can overclock more for less cores! At 14nm ...horrible dicision! My Ryzen 5900x has 12 cores! 12!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

I think the development motherboards are made by smaller manufacturers, I worked a part time job in a factory that produces simular boards and most of the components are of the shelf so they often have thousends in stock. If Intel now came up with a new socket they only need to produce the actual socket und than mount it on most of the old boards, which should be enough for testing purposes. The PCBs are most of the time also quiet standard components so als long as you don't change the physical layout of the pins you can use boards that are currently used and produced.

If it wasn't for my NDA, I would love to discuss the Intel board stuff/validation information at 8:53. I work as a contractor at a Hillsboro, OR campus.

Really hope 11900k is good, my 10900k and 5900x build is boring as fuck. Literally Same performance even though zen 3 is “7nm” and that means it’s literally the best thing in the world yet can’t dominate a 14nm chip by a company who can fab their own shit unlike the joke of a company called AMD. Which is why I sold my stock

Much like the odometer on my Nova, at some point Intel needs to roll the number scheme back to zero.
